Short Story:The Killing of Walter Harris

The Killing of Walter Harris
As Walter Harris pulled into his 300 million dollar mansion, he noticed something was wrong. All the lights were off. “I wonder why the lights are of; I always leave at least one light on.” It was raining pretty hard so he figured that the power went out. He also noticed that his son Kevin’s car was in the driveway. “Why is Kevin’s car here?” he asked himself while he continued to the front door. He opened the door and it was pitch black inside the mansion. He yelled for his maid that he underpaid, and disrespected. “GLORIA!! Where are you, and why are the lights off?” no response. “I don’t pay you to play hide and seek.”Again he yelled he name but still no response. As he searches for a light he notices that the guest room light is on. “Kevin are you in here?” No response. The bathroom light was on. “Kevin are you…” he finds his son in the bathtub face down in a puddle of blood, “Oh my gosh.” His face filled with horror and pain, he tries to dial 911 but the phone line is cut. He runs out the room and passed the kitchen, but goes back because he sees a puddle of blood leading to the freezer. “What is this?” He opens the freezer door, and what he sees isn’t food at all. What he does see is unimaginable. It was in fact a trash bag stuffed in the freezer. He opens it with fear in his eyes, and the content of that trash bag was unimaginable. It was Gloria with her body parts in freezer bags, with her head severed from her body. “Who would do this terrible thing to my family? I have to get out of here.” Walter Harris was a heavy set man, and also a very lazy man. He ate about two forty ounce steaks every night with his usual Cuban cigar and bottle of champagne. When he got the house built he had a whole room put in it just for weights, and a treadmill but it was only collecting dust after he bought the equipment. It was better off staying at the store. Adding to his laziness, he was in no shape to run because of his love of Cuban cigars. He would usually have four per day. It’s a wonder how he hasn’t developed lung cancer. He runs to the kitchen door, but to only see that its bolted shut. He tries the front door but that’s bolted shut too. That’s when he realized that the person who killed his son and his maid is still in the house. He hears footsteps. Then runs up the stairs to his room where a revolver is in his dresser. When he gets there he sees that it’s trashed and the gun is gone. He looks for his phone. It is nowhere to be found. “I have to escape this house fast” he says. He tries the bathroom window but he couldn’t get it open. He runs back down the stairs terrified about what he seen in this house. He finds a dark open room and tries the window. The door shuts and when Walter turns around he sees a dark figure walking towards him.
